Hi,
We're staying at the travelodge on St Mary's street on Sunday 15/02 till the afternoon of monday 16/02.We have a blue badge for free parking in most places but we were unsure how this works in Edinburgh.Ideally we would park at the travelodge but we think it may charge us £10,not sure on that one.Does it make a difference for on street parking on a Sunday? Any advice on cutting the cost of parking would be appreciated.I can always park further away and then pick up the disabled person.Cheers.

give travelodge a ring and explain about your badge. I dont think they charge under those circumstances but it'll be worth checking as it will be easier for you getting to the hotel.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

you can park on street where there are parking meters for free any day if you have a blue badge. My dad asked a traffic warden recently to check so it should be true!

I am a bit late for this post, but as an ex-traffic warden in edinburgh the above advice is not true you may be caught out,Traffic Wardens in Edinburgh do NOT do meters/ticket machines/etc they do enforceable offences ie zig zags speed cameras double banking points duty greenways ,it may have been a parking attendant,if the street has parking bays for ticket machines and meters and resident parking bays/taxi ranks you cant park in resident bays or taxi ranks or in a pedestrian area or on double red line or dyls where there is a loading restriction hope this helps some body .:D
please do not pick on me for my grammar,I left school at fifteen and worked in the building trade for 55years ,

Does this mean though that you can still park in the parking bays just not in the residents parking?

What about Greenside multi storey and St James's? Never been sure or not if I get free parking in there and never took the chance as it costs sooooo much money to park there normally.

this is one of the worst areas to try and park with a blue badge as it is just behind the Royal Mile and the High Street. I parked just round the corner in what I thought was a disabled bay during festival last year and got ticketed as it was a m/c space. I couldnt see markings on road as it was Festival time and the street was hooching with people... However, our traffic wardens have no concept of how difficult it is to park in this area (especially as there are practically no spaces due to roadworks/tramworks etc.) They should be made to drive round this city with a blue badge and find how close they can get to where they are going to! Mission impossible is no joke. I have now been told my fine is now £90 as I refused to pay initially..but they have snet me a photo of the street (with no people in it and of course road signs are clearly visible) U would probably be better off parking with your badge in Jeffrey Street (which is the street straight over from st mary's street where there are single yellows and meters) GOOD LUCK! Think I will be having to go to Court as I cannot afford to pay my fine and despite the fact I have informed them of my disability/lone parent (limited income) I was in fact going to collect school vouchers to help pay for my son's school uniform, recovering from being rescued from a house fire! BE WARNED.... THERE IS NO COMPASSION FROM THEM IN THIS TOWN! SLAPPING ON HIGHER CHARGES WILL COST THEM MORE IN THE LONG RUN AS I WILL GO TO COURT AS A MATTER OF PRINCIPLE.

No point going to court, you made a mistake and should have just paid up, it will cost you a lot more in the long run if you don't just pay it now.

u sure its not u who's the ex traffic warden? geewiz? If I had the money to pay it in the first place I obviously would have done so, however as I stated I could see no road markings because the street was heaving with tourists.

Just thought I'd let you know how we got on.The disabled bays,3 available, in the Travelodge were free. We left the car there for the duration of our trip and used local buses. There wasn't much walking as we were so close to the attractions we wanted to see.We had a great time and thanks for the advice.
