  • When I got my dog there 3 years ago, the charge was £60

Great to see someone taking a dog from a rescue centre. I have had 2 dogs from rescue centres and both have been fantastic pets. Good luck with finding your new friend, they're definitely more than just a pet.

  • Thanks for the replies. I already have a dog from Carrick Dog Pound and he is fantastic but quite nervous and hates being left alone. I thought another dog would be good company for him. I have found a dog at the Dogs Trust, a golden lab and i took my dog down today to see how they got on. They had a great time together! I am waiting for her to be spayed and hopefully, i can pick her up next weekend!:T

:T:T yayyyy shinybabe, congratulations on finding a new doggy friend for your current companion. And it's heartening that you made a beeline for the Dogs Trust - the papers are already carrying ads for purebreed puppies, it's so sad when there are fantastic dogs to be found through the various rescues.

What are you going to call your new girl?

She is already called 'Molly' and as she is 4 years old, i think i will stick to that name.

You are right, there are some fantastic dogs at the Dogs Trust. They had two tiny brown puppies - OMG, you should have seen them - beautiful!!! I wish i could take them all home:rotfl:

We got a rescue Staffy from the Staffy rescue and paid £100. This just pays for the overheads and, in my opinion, is well worth it.

Totally agree about getting dogs from the trust or other kennels. have done this myself in the past and would love to again however the home check that they now do would be a problem for us. I know they dont like giving out dogs to ppl who are at work all day and unfortunately my partner and myself are, really scared of going, choosing a dog, falling in love with it and then not 'passing the test' so to speak!!

Please don't be put off by the home check sparky - if one rescue says not to you then just try another, there are so many rescue dogs out there that need you! All the good rescues wil do home visits (or take up Vet refrences) but they only do it because they want to give the dog the very best chance they can of finding the right home. I've always worked full time and have never had a problem adopting dogs, I was tlaked out of getting a puppy on a couple of occasions - but have to admit that the rescue was right, the older dogs suited my lifestyle much better.

:T Congrats on your new rescue dog shinybabe, I hope you and Molly will have lots of happy years together xxx
Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree! :D

I woulds just be frustrated and in a way a little offended!! We have a dog at the minute and he is very very much loved, very happy and over spoiled!!

Like I said just scared of falling in love and then being told now! The first dog we got was no problem, got her as a puppy and shes no a tearaway. Once we get the house decorated we are def thinking of it as we know our current dog would love a play mate!!

  • Good luck with the dog. We got our dog from the Boxer Rescue in Belfast, he is great, I cannot believe his last owners gave him up as he is no bother, such a great temperament and no chewing- only his toys!

Some of the puppies in the paper are bred in really bad conditions and I refuse to pay someone hundreds of pounds when they are resuces out there dying for a good home and one bonus is they usually come house trained!!
