Lowell Portfolio attempting to collect alledged old debt

Hi,
I have recently obtained a copy of my credit file from experian. On it shows a CCJ which I knew nothing about - interestingly though my credit score is 999 (which can't be any better). It is linked to an old address which I lived in 2001. After a lot of digging around, I have managed to assertain that this relates to an alledged debt sold by Barclaycard to a company called Lowell Portfolio 1 Ltd.

I have contacted Barclaycard who are not much use as they have sold the alledged debt. I do not believe that I owe this money and recall paying the credit card off before closing it. Unfortunately I have no proof of this now unfortunately. I have spoken to Lowell who want proof of payment.

How do I go about resolving this issue and getting the CCJ removed from my credit file - Experian aren't much use, all they are saying is I need to negotiatewith the Lowell company - however lots of internet threads are saying I shouldn't contact them. Also, how with this on my credit file is it that I have such a good credit score?

Please help!
Dave

If it's from 6+ years old it's statute barred. They can't claim on a debt that old.

I've received a letter from them about a debt from my old address. They are scam artists. Don't phone them and don't write to them admitting the debt.

If you do a search on the net there are standard letters you can send to them asking them to give you details of what the debt is as they are obliged to.

They've written to me 6 times but won't get a penny as I don't owe anything.

I think that it won't be Statute Barred as the OP said it was a CCJ. As far as I know CCJ's never become statute barred.

This is correct, but if the CCj has not been enfocred in the last 6 years, then Lowell have to go to court to get permission to do this.

Do NOT have any further conversations with them and Do NOT write to them until you have taken legal advice.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
