Does anyone use costco? At a joining fee of £28 I am wondering if it would be worth while for me to join or not. Had a look round and quality seemed good etc. Macro is not an option as I dont meet criteria to join there where I do with Costo. Opinions please.

I have been a member of costco for a good few years now (via my business) and have to say that i find it great - some things i find are not that cheap/cheaper than the supermarkets.
There meat is excellent quality and the bakery is really good.
There is a costco thread somewhere saying what people found good - will have a search for it for you - brb.
yes here it is - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=761137&highlight=like+about+costco
that should help you decide0 -
We always say to people considering Costco - it may not save you money because you can certainly buy cheaper loo rolls etc, but Costco stuff is generally much better quality - think Aldi in bulkPlease forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

another thread worth reading

I'm a Costco devotee - especially the Kirkland stuff which is their own brand. I think the quality is miles ahead of everywhere else and they often have goods you cab't get elsewhere.0 -
I love kirkland stuff. The kitchen roll is amazing, huge thick sheets. I used a roll of bounty the other day and it is really thin and cheap in comparison.
The meat is fab and the bakery is great too. Stuff like coke is around £3.90 for a case (£7. something in Tesco) I find loads of things much cheaper in Costco, some stuff isn't, but there really isn't much I've been dissapointed with over the years.:A

Thanks everyone, Had tried a search but hadn't come up with anything.
Think I shall empty the freezer etc then go and join as you all seem to be confirming my original thoughts, quality good, prices generally at least comparible to the cheap shops but much better quality and as its fairly close worth a go. What sort of offers are there? Do you get a flyer or email or something so you know what the offers are and when etc?0 -
Hi
once you have joined you are sent a coupon book, usually twice a year I think (Sept and April time from memory - someone may know more accurately). Occasionally there are other flyers which come in a couple of times a year. I've found that if I forget to take the money off coupons they always have one at the till which they will scan for me anyway (at least they do in Glasgow).
The other thing worth noting is each Costco has a cafeteria - not fancy but dirt cheap and it's food which you can buy in store. Last weekend I bought 2 teas, 2 baked potatoes with filling and a huge scone with butter which was enough for 2 to share - total cost £4.05. They do pizzas, baked potatoes, salads, cottage pies, hot dogs and some bakery products amongst others - definitely worth stopping by. The surroundings may not be luxurious but I don't think you'll get much better value for a snack anywhere else. I've seen whole families eating there!
I often find it's worth just dropping into Costco on an ad hoc basis - it's amazing what they get in but when it's sold out that's it. Last weekend it was ladies leather blazers, absolutely gorgeous tan leather, so soft and smelt fab - £44 + vat - none left in my size though.:(
Happy shopping!0 -
Costco have a double guarantee.
(1) You can return items for a no quibble refund - they will ask you what is wrong with the product and you can say you've changed your mind. At least you don't get a smarmy sales assistant telling you that you can't return it for a spurious reason.
(2) Iif at any point during the membership year you are dissatisfied then you can leave and the whole £28 will be refunded even after say 9 months of membership.
On the basis of (2) you have nothing to lose. The man without a signature.0 -
A good idea is to get a joint membership with a friend/relation so it will cost £14 per year0

Dad always gets his tyres there, apparently they are cheap and have very good people doing the fitting.
Gorgeous tray pizza for £6 - we had to cut it in half to fit it in the oven! Veg with a ton of goat's cheese all over it.0 -
me & my mate shared a membership £14 each - saved that several times over on some bargins but also as said preeviously the cafe is great, JP with 2 fillings £1.22, hot dog & fizzy drink (refillable) £1.50 plus lots more.
We go about 3-6 times a year and so does my friend. Brought a whole chix last time with £1 off was £2.99 and everyone agree how lovely it was and moist much better than the supermarkets cooked chicken so yes we have to agree quality is good.0
