Oooh, I was just about to submit this when I found your post.

I always do the Zagat survey (so I get the free guide every year!), and I find it's the best eating out guide. By compiling loads of reader reviews into a short 5 or 6 line summary you get a really good idea of thousands of people opinions rolled into 1. Much better than reading a restaurant critic, I think.
