Employer seeking repayment of salary...after leaving

Well still have had no response from the HR department. Hopefully the issue will have been resolved and there will be no more letters!!0

Unless you are counting on a reference from this employer (which I doubt as there is the disciplinary issue), If you can't get hold of the manager who made the verbal agreement (or he won't admit to it), then I would draft a letter to HR explaining the timeline and all the points that you have made to us in your posts and advise them that you dispute any overpayment of wages and consider the matter closed.
i doubt very much they will chase you for a few hundred quid

Did her terms and conditions of employment allow for the recovery of overpaid wages? If not, they can ask, but AFAIK they can't require ...Signature removed for peace of mind0
