I think most of those whinging about low savings rates miss the point, last year when interest rates were around 5% inflation was also 5% so after paying 20% tax on the 5% interest their invested capital made a 1% loss, now savings rates are around 2% and rpi is only 0.9% they make 1.1%

Well, if you actually believe that the published inflation rates are what one actually experiences in real life, there's no point debating the point further with you... hell, next you'll be saying Santa Claus exists !!!

I reckon most pensioners would go for that...

Good shame most would then recive no benefits what so ever as we would not have a working population then the £'s they had would no longer exist.
  • I misinterpreted the thread title. I was going to join your group as my alter ego is...........

Mr Methane............ Ridding the world of costly gas bills and saying NO to nuclear Power Plants, an allotment full of brussel sprouts are my only weapon of war!
I am a Mortgage Consultant and don't like to be told what I can and can't put in a signature so long as it's legal and truthful.
  • A far more effective plan would be to target poorest paying banks/accounts.

Regularly check best buy rates and move money into them.

Half the problem is saver inertia.

Make the deposit takers work for their money.

    What the responsible ones?

Trying to cause a run on banks because you dont feel you get enough interest is :o .

Look at the economy, people are loosing their jobs left right and centre and some selfish people moan because their savings are not making as much money.

Grow up some of you this is the real world not monopoly.

But if you want the savers of the world to unite, there's no need.

As we all know there is only one "saver of the world" - Gordon Brown.

    He told us so.

And he'd never lie or make a mistake.

    Would he? :p
