Buying Past It's Sell by Date Food

I think we all need to plan a bit better if the information regarding food waste on this site is anything to go by...

I used to have a lot of wasted food, but it's just too expensive to feed a family now to let anything go to waste, back in our parents and grandparents day they simply didn't have anything to waste. How on earth did they make a joint of meat last all week without a freezer?? :eek:0 -
I am fastidious about Use By dates - so much so my six year old now checks dates on things before eating them - even crisps!
Its not the first time that meat or chicken has been off well inside the sell by/use by date, how the heck does that happen? I shop quickly and get home and put shopping away quickly to avoid it? I have taken to shopping more frequently and locally for fresh rather than the traditional 'big shop' as i can plan better and have less waste.
I must admit the thought of a whole website dedicated to food past it date fills me with horror, but fairplay to anyone who uses it and is happy - each to their own0 -
I think you are confusing 'best before' dates with 'use-by' dates, they are not the same thing, not at all! :rolleyes:0
