Without employment, how is one going to balance the other?
If it is debt incurred in Dubai, what the hell has he been doing with his money?
I have no idea but the good times have rolled for these expats and now not so good they just up sticks, leave the flash cars at the airport and eff off back here. This is a big part of the problem, people get themselves in the $hite financially and don't face their responsibilities (or should that be irresponsibilies).0 -
I was out that way a few weeks ago, visiting a mate who works there.
Nobody's there for the love. My mate earn a fortune but he too already has plans to drive to the airport, leave his car there and hop on a plane if it all goes wrong. So far he's been very luck but people are fired at his place of work almost daily, often for no apparent reason. It's proper sword of Damocles stuff.0 -
It used to be that working abroad in Arab countries was all about saving all the tax free money, in order to come home and be able to afford a house. Not for gambling and shopping money.0

Most people seem to send most of their pay back home at the end of the month. The pay packets are huge but you can live reasonably cheaply. Some things are pricey (my mate's rent is £7,000 per month!) but petrol is 60p per gallon for example.
Apparently when it all goes wrong you can fly back home from it all and it doesn't affect your credit rating. You stand to lose a lot more than your car if you hang around.
The acronym for blokes over there working hard, and earning loads while the family is in the UK made me laugh. Wife Away, No Kids, Eating Rubbish.0 -
Do they shoot bankrupts over there, isnt debt and borrowing a sin in islam0

:rotfl:
No, I don't think they shoot bankrupts! I believe that Islam bans interest on loans, but in places like Dubai, it's 'flexible' in the same way that drink is.
Punishment for bankruptcy could be up to five years in jail."I'm not even supposed to be here today."0 -
It appears that everyone gets loans and CCs to pay rent upfront. buy a car, plasma etc etc... They had £20k limits the week they moved out there are there is no credit checking.
Having a google, if they start to miss credit card payments the Bank can place a travel ban meaning that they will not be able to leave the country.
Problem is that a single man can easily just leave the car at the airport and run. A family with children, a container full of their belongings etc is unfortunately not so easy.
Also you can't rent in the UK without a job........... as he is in construction management and she is ex=estate agent, doesn't look hopeful for when they return.
I used to see their life out there with all the trappings and wonder wistfully....now I am so grateful for my terraced house in Kent and job. There are times when parenthood seems nothing but feeding the mouth that bites you Peter De VriesDebt free by 40 (27/11/2016)0 -

Usury is a sin in Islam and was in Christianity although the Bible only forbids Jews from charging each other interest.
That is why Jews could set up banks AIUI.0
