You can indeed get minced garlic at the supermarket - not sure about chillis - It's sometimes called "lazy garlic". Comes in small glass jars. In Sainsburys, it's with the gravey mixes/chutneys/pickles.

I always assume that this just means that I need to chop it very finely, until it's almost a paste. Easy enough to do if you have a large, very sharp knife.

As we use ginger, garlic and chillies in everyday cooking we prepare in bulk using food processor and freeze, use as you require. Alternatively use the hand grater for fresh garlic or ginger mince, chilli bit difficult to grate and will have to br chopped with knife. Avoid ready made jars if you can.

Either bung it in a garlic press, small blender or just chop finely by hand

  • I use lazy garlic and chilli. Works better for us as keeps ages and we only use it from time to time. It was in the ingredients section in Tesco.
  • If yuo live near a Home Bargains they have minced garlic, chilli and ginger much cheaper thean the supermarkets.
  • I use the lazy garlic too, I buy it in Tesco and wouldn't be without it!
  • Why don't you make your own??? I buy cheap chillis and garlic, finely chop them myself and then put them in a jar topped up with white vinegar...this gives me not only fresh garlic and chilli but also after a while, the vinegar is infused nicely and can be added to salad dressing for a different flavour!!!

I make my own by mashing chopped garlic with a little olive oil in the pestle and mortar, make in batches, pop into a small lidded pot and in the fridge. I go through it regularly but it saves a little time.
