hi, we use at least 6pts of milk daily as i have 4 children, one it dairy intol so has soya milk, i have tried to reduce the amount we use as the amount of milk carton waste we have each week is a nightmare although it all gets recyled. ive looked into milk deliveries but the milkman only delivers 3 times a week in my area which is not enough and would also cost alot more. have read about making your own soya/nut/rice milk and it sounds interesting, it can be done with or without a machine. its cheap to make, good for you, no waste etc. does anyone do this and what does it taste like, rice and nut milk can you use it in tea and coffee, any feedback would be great thanks

We both drink soya milk and bought one of these about 7 or 8 months ago and it's great. It produces really good soya milk, that is much cheaper than supermarket stuff and importantly for us isn't full of additives, flavourings and other emulsifiers. We buy non GM organic beans.

It's really simple to use, easy to clean and we really like the milk. I guess if you or your kids are used to sweetened milk you'd have to sweeten it in some way, I'm also not sure what other milks you can make with it other than Soya.
One real advantage is that we don't have to buy soya milk cartons in bulk, we just buy the beans so we've gained cupboard space back as well.Piglet

hi, i bought a soya milk maker this week, same one as piglet mentioned above. Its really easy to use, and most importantly easy to clean. I made my first batch last night as very impressed, it does taste more beany than the soya milk you buy in cartons, but i am going to have a play around with it today and try taking the skins of the beans before i put them in the machine to see if it makes any difference to the taste. I am definately looking at the savings we are going to make, we buy about 9 litres a week of soya milk, and it will be costing me less than 20p for 1.5 litres home made!0

There used to be a recipe on the board for rice and another for almond but I can't find them - they were posted a long time ago though0
