How Do You Keep Motivated?

Not sure if this is a debt issue, or just an issue of being low paid, or could be a mixture of the 2, Sure I have debts, nothing major really on the grand scheme of things. But I heard someone on the radio today talking about getting a house they said "We've had to cut back on holidays, changing cars in order to save up for a deposit" I thought to myself "Aw poor you, you've had to miss a holiday" I've never had one, nor do I own a house, at least he'll miss one holiday, next year when he gets his deposit etc he can have his holiday, what hope is there for the like of myself? I suppose I'm just feeling sorry for myself, but sometimes you just wonder whats the point in it all, it just hard to keep motivated sometimes. There was also lay offs at work this week, everyone was c*apping themselves hoping they weren't on the list, I again thought to myself, If I was made redundant, It would be no major loss, infact it would be a benefit, I'd get 3 years redundancy:D Get housing benefits and all the rest.

  • I *kinda* know what you mean - sometimes I get fed up struggling and worrying about money...would also LOVE a holiday! I just keep telling myself it won't always be like this..but I was made redundant two weeks ago and am now competing with what seems like half of Northern Ireland for even the most basic of jobs at wages I'm not even sure will cover the mortgage.

Chin up, we have to trust the future will be better than this!!

Thats the one thing I am glad I do not have, there is so much more freedom without one, I was in the job centre just the other day looking at the jobs, there is nothing, the boards are filled with jobs from the army, I assume to fill up space. Sad thing for me is, its been like this since I got my first job at 16, now at 29 things haven't got any better:o

  • See you feel better already cos at least you don't have a mortgage to worry about, lol!! I haven't been to the job centre yet...but I check online every morning and that's depressing enough...as was going to see a load of agencies who all have no jobs..one agency showed me the list of cvs they had received inside two days...it was a huge list for a very small agency. My previous job was property related but
I'm prepared to brush the streets if it pays the mortgage!

You said your debts weren't anything 'major'...read a few of the stories on here and you'll realise that sometimes those people we envy with their holidays etc have debts that are truly scary...so maybe we shouldn't be envious after all!!

Have you got anything to aim for? It sounds like you're feeling sorry for yourself and bumbling along... which is fine if that makes you happy and content... but if you want more... Decide what you want... work out a plan on how you will get that goal... and go for it!! Motivate yourself to achieve whatever you want to achieve!! Because you can do anything if you set your mind, heart and soul to it!!

If it's a more stimulating job, think about what would excite you and find out what you'd need to get it...then work out a plan on how you'll get it!! If it's fancy holidays, decide where you want to go, save up for it and take lots of pictures and memories away with you, and then plan the next one!

You're 29!! If your plan and goal is that you don't go on holiday for another 21 years... I hope you're planning somewhere amazing!! The moon maybe?? :p
