Selling Jewellery?

I've got some jewellery to sell (all with valuation certificates) where is the best place to sell?
We are talking like £8k rings so eBay will be a no no. Local jewellers aren't interested at the moment
Any ideas?

Have you looked at international buyers maybe? with the strength of the dollar or euro maybe you can tempt someone to take them off your hands online? I would contact a US jewelry website or company, there must be some 2nd hand ones0

I tried to sell some and local jewellers were offering next to nothing, I got a little more on eBay but still nowhere near the cost2p off is still 2p off!0

The valuation certificates are usually for insurance purposes and represent the costs of replacing the item (cost new), they do not represent how much you should expect to get for these items selling them second hand.
Sorry, don't mean to be blunt, but you are very unlikely to be able to sell them for anywhere near the value shown on the valuation certificate.

I tend to agree, valuation can easily be a third higher than actual value, even more sometimes. Also jewellery goes in and out of fashion, so it might be worth hanging on to it until your stuff becomes popular again, or the recession ends!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Hi Gareth83,
Your timing is not great!
Currently, optomism is fairly low in the jewellery trade and there are many more folk selling off bits and pieces at the moment.
From your post, the items sound significant so you may want to explore the Auction House route. Fine a good Auction House and be guided by there suggestions regarding reserves.
There are plenty are plenty of buyers about but they know that the sellers expectations are low and are looking for bargains, so you need to be realistic regarding your likely return. Dont forget to factor in the Auction room's fees for selling your items.
As previously stated, your valuations are probably for Insurance Replacement and bear no relationship to the likely resale value. When selling, quality, condition and fashion (or demand) play the biggest parts. A valuation for insurance at New Replacement market level, doesnt consider there last two factors.
Overall my advice would be to hold off for a wee while and see if the optimism returns to the market place.
Kind regards
Adrian0
