My OH has quite a physical job and he likes things like stew (scouse) or chunky soups with bread. I bulk out soups with things like barley, rice, small pasta or broken spaghetti and spuds so he doesn't feel hungry quickly.
Particularly good when its cold in a Thermos flask and they are the cheapest thing you can make for lunch. Things like rice salad, pasta salad and cous cous are great but I know my OH would get a ribbing for taking 'girls' food0 -
If you're cooking pasta, make an extra portion at the same time and put it in a box for the next day with cold meat. Cold rice is nice too.
How about a home made soup in a Thermos flask? This could be extended to chilli or curry and a baguette to go with it. You could cook it overnight in the SC and put it in the flask in the morning, or has your oven got a timer?
Can't think of anything else just now, sorry0 -
What about things like flapjack with dried fruit and nuts in it? Or HM cheese and onion pasties which are easy to make and nice cold. Or chicken drumsticks?
It's definitely worth getting a food flask - it's got a much wider mouth and you can put chunky things in it, not just soups. I used to take stew with me when walking in the hills in winter and it was so wonderful..... Then I damaged my knee and that was that.
