Does feta cheese go off?

I've got a sealed pack of feta cheese in my fridge which I've had since way before Chrimbo, will it be alright? Should I just smell it and decide?

It'll probably be fine, you'll soon know if it's gone off as it'll smell rancid! As I know when I cleared the fridge out last time and found a tiny bit left in an open pack down behind the salad drawers!

OOOH! I wish you had asked this question a couple of days ago, i had the same problem, although it tasted ok, i just had a little taste, i wasn't sure, so chickened out and threw it in the bin. Then i had a guilt complex about wasting it. But now i know. I will be more firmer with my self and use the next one that i buy quicker and not let it hid in the fridge for so long. :o

  • If it's unopened, it will probably be ok (although I suppose that depends on what you mean by "way before" Christmas). Whenever I buy feta the use by date is usually for a few months later so it keeps for quite a while. Once it's opened it says you should use it within 3 days but I usually keep it a couple of days beyond this and it's always been fine. Like I said though, if it's unopened I think it should be ok.
