    'To slap the lodger'
    turns nicely into
'To strike (collide, wallop, sock, belt clout, clobber, thwack) or come into contact with, at some force, the inhabitant of the upper quarters for sleeping'

I am nicely cheered up now!! :)

You could do all of the above and then decide which method you prefer

OK if you want to die of depression and boredom like me - as I am supposed to exhibit a 'lexically dense' vocabulary (as per my course tutor, my supervisor et al) - this might cheer you up - I have spent about a week and only have about 500 words so far......all I want to say is - they are good at growing quick - easy eh - oh no I have to say something like this............................

'Salix species exhibit many characteristics consistent with ruderal or pioneer species that successfully colonise newly created habitats or disturbed environments (Koeleian & Volk, 2005). These traits include the ability for expeditious growth combined with a capacity to grow enthusiastically in relatively dense stands, whilst maturing quickly. Salix can also form mutually beneficial symbiotic associations with several types of mycorrhizal fungi allowing nutrition in the most degraded of areas (Backhaus et al., 1986). Moreover, Salix have quick growing matt forming roots which are also capable stabilising disturbed soils by withstanding both anoxic and alluvial environments. Furthermore, Salix exploit a highly successful dispersal strategy ensuring survival having a tenacious capacity to regenerate vegetatively from almost any fragment of aerial material and also by prolific seed production. ..........'

well thats just your opionion , :p

    Wasnt Backhaus circ 1979-1983 ?

They released a debut single called, Bella Lugosi’s Dead, in August, 1979. The single remained on the British charts for 2 years.

The band split up in 1983 and their last show together was at the Hammersmith Palais.

That way of writing is insane, isn't it! I read a theory one time that the power group in any one specialty do that on purpose, to maintain exclusivity.... and reading that, I'm inclined to believe it!

  • Hi KK - yeah it sucks doesnt it - the more I get into the 'exclusive club' the bigger the bag of poo it looks like.

I think its rotten to exclude folk when the actual merit of my phd lies in social ability to provide affordable renewable heat.

Am really torn at the moment - the works sustains us here in Orkney but tbh - its beginning to look like someone one here says 'trying to walk uphill on ski's ' I find this type of writng almost impossible - theres a good chance I am dyslexic - most of my family are as well as my kids but - even still its like pulling teeth.

On the positive tonight I caught two sluggus horriblis and feed them to the chookies

    whahahahahahaha eviil laugh

Slugus horribilisesesses - excellent chookie food! Stay with the phd hon - you're doing it for the greater good, so that ordinary folks *can* have locally sourced renewable heat.

Shouldn't that be 'Furthermore I caught two sluggus horriblis and fed them to the cookies (Bare Bum Barbara et al 2009)

:eek: just read what you wrote Fay, you did mean 'fed them to the CHOOKIES didn't you :eek:. Now we can't even pop in for a cuppa & biccie,as well as not staying for 'a little something from the freezer' ;)
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Sorry did feed them to the chookies not the cookies :rotfl:

    I think you are right

That should read - potentially - with some inspiration from yourself ........

Furthermore, the author ardently captured a pair of Sluggus horriblis whilst surveying the newly germinated seedlings in the designated horticultural propagation facility, as established and described by McKenzie & Grant (2009). Once captured the termination of the horticultural pests was facilitated by the use of traditional domesticated poutlry (Bare bum Barbara & Margot, 2009) as injestive devices (Sockus, Stripeyus & Mentalis, 2009).
