I am sure there used to be a slow cooker recipe mega thread, but i cant find it, or it might be aifgment of my imagination lol.
ANyway i have tonnes of fish, lots of salmon, trout, haddock, tuna in the freezer, been there a few months and want to use it up. Does anyone have any recipes for the slow cooker as never cooked fish in there before? Usually i just cook stews, casseroles, joints etc, but want to use up what i have in my freezer.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance

I wonder if fish would cook well in SC ?
It cooks so quickly anyway I might be inclined to cook a stew base and[STRIKE] add the fish for the second half of the cooking ?[/STRIKE] do the fish separately. ETA- I have seen Penny's post now so have scored through a bit of mine! My initial thoughts are confirmed!
Maybe this might be of use ?Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

Don't cook fish in the slowcooker  It needs to be cooked quickly, or it'll fall apartTry this thread - cooking fish.

I did wonder if fish was not a good SC option as it cooks quickly and can go too soft easily. I did think maybe a stew base though for fish ?
The link I posted suggests short SC times, although obviously this takes away some of the advantages of SC (i.e that you can leave it on all day when out etc).Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

I've taken a look at it, and understand what they're saying. Maybe it's because I love to cook, and find it relaxing, that I'd rather take 30 minutes when I get home from work to make this fish chowder from scratch than rush to prepare the chowder for the slow cooker before work, that takes 4-8 hours to cook
The posters on this board must think that thriftlady and I are waging a 2-woman war against the slowcooker:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Penny, I sometimes use the SC (like today) but other days I also too love to cook and so would rather make something in a pan/pot or other! I do wish I had had my SC when pregnant though as I completely understand the energy thing lilmrsmullen! It is also great when not enough time in the day to cook!
I think part of OS, for me anyway, it adapting your skills to the needs and time of each particular day/week.Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

fish cooks so quickly , that by the time you have prepared the SC you could have cooked it anyway0

My friend has a slow cooker and she loves it to pieces because when she is working she can fling a casserole together before she leaves in the morning and come home to a lovely hot meal. Her kids have lots on after school so they can all eat the same meal but at times to suit them. She cooks meat-based casseroles in her SC. For my friend a slow cooker is a valuable tool and she produces tasty family meals from it. If I were working all day and ferrying kids about all evening I would consider one too.
However, (here it comes:p ) what concerns me is that newcomers to this board all too often get the idea that 1) you need a slow cooker to be old style, and 2) that you can cook anything in it.0 -
Hi I do fish in sc. posted it on "in my sc today".
The fish does only take a short while to cook but you dont have to stand over the rest of it checking all the time. I also do Poached Egg with it.0
