Hyperfi (?) - Ad in the London Metro

Hello,
Has anybody been to this company's shop in Ilford?
I believe the name is "Hyperfi", mainly electrical goods, TVs, HiFi's etc.
They seem to advertise in the London Metro freebie paper most days.
This morning had the usual Sony 42" graded/ex-display plasma/LCD TV's for £399 or similar.
I am guessing that a visit to their shop would result in "sorry, we have got none of those available at the moment, how about this one for £800+..."
Just wondered if anybody knew anything about this outfit....?

Is this the company - www.hyperfi.co.uk - they have same TV advertised on their home page but I didn't go any further to check if in stock etc.
Hope this helps.0 -
Enfeldian, I'm pretty sure Hyperfi were about when I was buying my stereo which was around 2005, they always advertised in the back of Richer Sounds and some of the offers looked amazing. I visited a hi-fi forum at the time and someone was saying how they went to Hyperfi and expected a gold mine of bargains but were very disappointed. I have never visited the place myself however
Apologies mate, I realise this isn't the most helpful post but I think you're right in thinking that Hyperfi is a bit too good to be true. If you find out it isn't and their offers are actually as good as they say they are, giv me a shout, I could do with replacing my V60's!
I ended up getting my stereo form Superfi btw, as it had free delivery0 -
I've ordered a few things from Hyperfi many years ago, never had a problem with them... but as I said, that was years ago! But just goes to show that they've been around for many years, they're not some new outfit that will disappear overnight (although that's always possible in the present climate!). They always advertise in What Hi-Fi if memory serves me. Their best priced goods are always end-of-line stuff. Just give them a ring before you visit to avoid a wasted journey.0

I did a bit of research a couple of years ago and the ASA rulings came up, although I failed to find them searching today as I do not think there have been any recent ASA rulings against them and the previous ones are archived.
I guess you can read into this that either they have cleaned up their act and the advertised bargains are regularly available, or people have given up complaining about them advertising items that are very low stocked or constantly unavailable....(I don't know which of these applies BTW). As craig777 says, definitely phone before visiting for a specific advertised item to avoid disappointment.0 -

A couple of years ago I went all the way over there (about 60 miles) after phoning and being told "yes, we have it in stock". They didn't have one, and didn't seem to care. Wasn't happy.0

You can just buy online though now, can't you?0

I worked for Richer Sounds for about five years and Hyperfi used to come up quite often in price beats. Our policy was that we would beat the price if the item was in stock and brand new in a sealed carton. We never once ended up beating their prices. If you look at their adverts, it always says 'ex-display' in tiny letters meaning they will only have one available. In fact, the manager of the nearest Richer Sounds used to say to people "If you can buy that product from Hyperfi, brand new at that price, bring it here, sealed in its box, with a receipt and I'll give you £10 from my own pocket" He's never yet lost a tenner.0 -
I used Hyperfi years ago (in the 1990s!). They were comparable to Richer Sounds pricewise - sometimes beating them an I ended up with a couple of good deals from them. Not sure what they're like now though. Did find you needed to be quick to get the real bargains though - like other posters have said, not sure they had that many in stock sometimes.0

I phoned up years ago to check stock because of long drive to the store, had a list of 4 items all best buys in the reviews, yes all in stock, got there only to be told only 1 item really in stock but wouldn't sell it to me as had lots of people returning them, but they had cracking deals on other stuff.Windups!0
