Discharged!!!

Hi Everyone,

I was discharged yesterday on 27th Jan this year from my bankruptcy, which was granted on 29th April 2008, so wanted to say a big thank you to all those who helped me in the early stages when I was gathering info at such a difficult time.

Now begins the cleaning up of my credit file.

I have read the sticky on how to do this but wanted to ask a couple of questions.

I have checked my credit file with experian and all my debtors show up as being defaulted.

I understand I now need to write to them to get them all to update their records.

Many of the debtors show the various accounts as being defaulted on dates later than my bankruptcy date, which should surely read the 29th April 2008.

Could anybody clarify the exact course of action as I'm slightly confused as to what to do.

It's been a wait, but the relief is starting to become a reality, and it's great.

Thanks
ILB

Congratulations! I'm not yet discharged so sorry can't help. I do believe though that the default date can be dated on later than your BR date.

    :j :j

  • I've just checked my experian credit report and out of the 8 debtors owed at the time of my bankruptcy, only 4 are showing as defaulted. The other 4 don't even appear on the credit file!

Do I assume that the others are now forever off my dredit file?

Seems a bit strange (3 were from HSBC and one from Mint).

There appears to be no record of them on the credit file.

Maybe I should just be happy that they are not on the file.

Regarding the ones that show as defaulted, the dates that the defaults are showing are between the bankruptcy date, and the discharge date, so I believe this is ok?

It's my understanding that I need to write to those marked as default, and now ask the relevant creditors to update their records to show 'satisfied' (or similar), for the records.

If anyone could confirm that would be great.

    Many thanks In advance

The HSBC accounts probably wouldn't show on your credit file as HSBC never reported to credit reference agencies until recently and that is generally only for new customers to the bank. If an existing customer opened a new account, it's possible it would appear but unlikely.

Mint should appear on your credit file so my guess is that it's most likely that there is an address anomaly between the address you gave to search your credit file and the address that Mint hold for you. Any slight variation, including house name or number on a different line, can cause problems for Credit Expert. You can call Experian customer services as they will be able to see and link addresses for you. Lenders always see accounts even if there is an address anomaly so it's best to get it checked to make sure it's marked as satisfied etc.

I don't know the answer to how accounts should be marked post bankruptcy - I haven't got to that stage yet! ;)
