cheapest way to tranfer foreign money to UK account

I recently moved to Singapore where I will be stationed for 2 years for work. Whilst I am here, I am being paid Singapore Dollars into my Singapore bank account.
Back in UK, I still have a Mortgage which is in Pounds (GBP), and also a bank account. There is sufficient Pounds in my bank account to service the mortgage for the period of time i am out of the country.
My Mortgage agreement allows free overpayments.
With the pound relatively low compared to when I first came to Singapore, I have decided that it is a good time to spend every spare penny I have here back to UK and to make as many overpayments as possible.
The theory in my mind is that with Pounds being cheaper to buy now, my house would therefore be cheaper to buy.
But I can not find any means of spending my SG Dollar to UK to pay of my GB Pounds debt.
Any service I have found tend to require high handling fee.
If possible, I would like to send upto 1k GBP a month.
Anyone have any suggestions ?

Have you looked into moving your UK account to offshore banking? When I lived in Singapore I used Lloyds TSB offshore banking for my UK accounts etc and they were very helpful. It was easy to move money around as far as I recall, though I can't guarantee there were no handling fees - if there were, they can't have been large or I would have remembered!0
