Question about tools of trade on forms 3.1

Hi

3.1 Please list everything you own, including assets of your business (if any), and their approximate amount or value.

what exactly do they mean? my OH works in the IT industry and we have 2 servers, 1 home pc and 2 laptops, these are used to work from home including evenings and weekends. The reason for the number is that he develops desktop/ server applications that need to be tested on more than one machine.
Do we need to list them and all the equipment and books/technical manuals?
Also he needs to have internet at home for his work where does it put down that it is essential and should be on our SOA rather than come out of other money ie groceries?
has anyone had their internet disallowed by the OR?

Ok, think about it... are the pc's really worth anything? how old are they? do they appear on bank statements or anything as recently purchased?

my OH has 3 pc's and 1 server in his office but the reality is they are worth maybe £500 for the lot. When we spoke to the OR he asked about the office stuff but when told it was worth little, he just said 'oh' We didnt even list on OH forms.

We have claimed internet on our SOA for two reasons
1)hubby is disabled and sometimes has to log on to his work computer from home,
    2) We have 3 children one of which is at college other during GCSE, internet is needed for us due to coursework ect even youngest has internet homework to do. Libary 7 miles away. (also could quote goverment saying it wanted broadband in everyhome)
I must add though our SOA has not been approved yet though! lol.

Will also say, If your hubby has a client list in anyway they will try and sell it. They say they dont take tools of trade surly a client list is that? I think they look different if self employed. Also business bank account for BR's is impossilbe (unless one can be found internet based in nigeria with not cheque facilities)

I think the OR automatically thinks the reason you have gone BR is because of the business. This was not the case with us. Business is doing fine. Just needed it to pay us 20k a month to help us get out of debt with the shortfall loan :rotfl:
  • thanks nervousmother,

fortunately he's not self employed it's just that the company he works for has offices all over the world and he'll get emails at some stupid time in the morning from somewhere in Asia that say his application isnt working properly and can he fix it now, so he needs to get online and has remote access to his pc at work.

anyway hoping to get it done next week but still need to post SOA.
