Any advice for my arrears Payments
Comments

any money advice service worth its salt would never ever advise you to make more debt on a credit card, the csa are not financial advisors, there main aim is to get money by any means. do not correspond by telephone only by registered mail.0

Two years may not set in stone, but as anyone been able to pay back over 5 years?
Once they get the NRP and set arrears, its hard to disprove and even harder to come to an amicable agreement to pay back over a suitable period of time.0 -
Hi
I have nearly 6k of arrears because the CSA took 13 months to processs my initial claim and then didn't update my assessment when I started a new job.
Surely you could work out a rough estimate of what was due and set that money aside to reduce potential arrears, being as you did know the assessments were taking place?0 -

What do you mean "Surely"? You make it sound like I'm some kinda fool. My case was first opened with them 11 yrs ago and I was at Uni. At the time I was having to replace all my domestic things because my ex needed everything for the children. When I started work I was not on much of a wage (that I can remenber). I had never delt with the CSA before and to my knowledge there was no simple formula like 25% if income to work on. I was also making sure things like school trips were paid for and other items of clothing as well as visiting every other weekend as I was living away and obviously there was fuel to pay for. Foolishly I only kept some of the reciepts and my ex would dispute that I ever did anything for my children. Because she lied! Also, more than half of the arrears were due to me changing jobs and the CSA not recording my new salary. So yes I could have put away £50, £100, £150, or £200 for the first 13 months and lived on what?Surely you could work out a rough estimate of what was due and set that money aside to reduce potential arrears, being as you did know the assessments were taking place?
Also, I don't hang on to the past so what was done or not done has nothing to do with my question now.
People like you just wind me up.
Don't bother replying.0 -

Surely = you knew there was some assessment ongoing - never suggested you would know the exact amount to pay, but even £5/£10pw put aside shows you made an effort towards responsibilities.

As many on here already know, I do not agree with ex's accepting money and then deny receiving it later. Afraid from your point of view it is now a lesson learnt to get signed for receipts and keep them.

You knew the assessment would go up and hadn't - that is why I think it is wrong to lay all the blame on the csa.

I state facts, sometimes it will not be liked.

From the csa's point of view you have acted irresponsibly (accept some of this is down to dishonesty by your ex but obviously the csa's hands are tied to the law) and will probably be tougher on you for not accepting some of the blame yourself.0 -
I can only assume you work for the agency as you ignore my question and start spouting about what-ifs and why I didn't do this and that.!!.

For your information £5/£10 pw would not have been enough by a long way. So I would have still have arrears from this period and still be asking the question here. How would this show I had made an effort towards my responibilities! My responsibilities lay with making sure my children don't go without when they need it.

Yes I know! Why are you telling me this!

Ok. I phoned them to notify my salary had increased. They say they will sort it. When a month passed by I phoned them again. I was again told it was being sorted out. I then fiind out 2 yrs later that an individual at the CSA had removed the salary information from my record and not input the new figure. I even wrote to them notifying my salary increase. Ah yes sorry, it's not all their fault and I should have done more.
Also, I don't hang on to the past so what was done or not done has nothing to do with my question now.

Hmm, this is interesting. Just what facts do you know! Unless you have access to my records at the agency you know nothing. So you can't pass judgement on my responsibilities towards my children.

But you did. I am aware of all the information you posted, as I know all the facts.

OK. I'm not sure that I should, but I will give you some more information. But then you could look this up on your records. I have lost count of the times the CSA has apologised for their errors. They advised me to see my MP and said I should apply for compensation (I didn't know I could). They paid me the maximum amount (without question). Guess what... they didn't pay me compo for not accepting some of the blame or acting irresponcibly but because they said it was all their fault!!!!!From the csa's point of view you have acted irresponsibly (accept some of this is down to dishonesty by your ex but obviously the csa's hands are tied to the law) and will probably be tougher on you for not accepting some of the blame yourself.
They have advised me that I have acted as they request by informing them of changes to my circumstances.
The only thing that you are right about is that it's Law and I already know that. So once again you have offered nothing I didn't already know.
Hope to hear from you soon....... x0 -
apywell the csa do make errors, that was not denied, the comment I made was that you too knew arrears were accruing and had to take some responsibility yourself.
I was waiting for your reaction before making a suggestion that may well help you, that reaction is pretty much what my ex once had - only the csa are guilty, so it is pointless trying to help (my ex is begining to look like an angel now).
The csa paid you compensation for the delays being outside certain limits, not because they were entirely at fault for you now having a 6K bill.
A little surprised to hear you are suddenly an expert in law, yet have to ask for advice.
As for the school trips etc - depending upon what type of receipts you may have a case of complaining to IS and affecting her past claim.0 -

Who said I was an expert in Law? Do you often read things and then come up with an entirely different interpretation of what is written?
Let me just repeat my question which I was hoping to get comments on...... (and thank you to those who did make applicable comments)
Does anyone know what my options are as they are phoning me back this Friday?
I mean, can I insist that I pay over 2yrs?
Now can you tell me how you come to think that this question really says 'lets tell him it's partly his fault for not putting money aside'. You are stating the obvious by saying I should have put money aside. Next you will be telling me that today is Saturday. I'm after advice on something I wasn't sure about.
What I also stated is:
"No ex bashing here please as I have said... I have paid everything I was told to, and my ex is not complaining". But rather than give any advice on the real question you seem to be having a pop at me for not putting money aside.
Foolishly -as already stated- I didn't keep all reciepts. The ones I had, I submitted and these were taken off the arrears. As for the school trip, I gave my ex the cash to pay the school direct. So she would have had the reciept.
You say you was waiting for my reaction before making a suggestion that may help me..... :T
Come on you know you want........
ps
They didn't phone yesterday so it will probably be Monday now. You still have chance to help me.0
