Have any women been granted anything similar to what your BIL is asking for, at this particular company?
All parents (of under 6's or disabled children under 18 at the moment, soon increasing to all) have the statutory right to make a request that has to be seriously considered. Personally, it looks like this isn't a workable (in the longterm) option, and your BIL gender isn't a factor.Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0 -
if gender is not a factor,it should be legal for men to take the 9 months maternity leave, and the woman to go back to work,as soon as they feel they are able to do so,as sometimes the woman is the higher earner0

Women are able to go back as little as two weeks after the birth.
Men should be able to have the same leave following a baby as women, I agree, but I think this is a seperate issue.Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0 -

Not only sometimes, but in a lot of cases, particularly younger couples, women are the higher earner, as females leave education these days with better qualifications than men.I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0
