Audiobooks?

I have been trying to find out how to go about buying audiobooks. I like to read but feel ill when I read on a bus (have to be looking out the window) so thought that audiobooks on my ipod might be a good idea while travelling to/from work.
I have seen audible.com but £7.99 per month for ONE book a month seems a bit much? Is there a cheaper website for them? I'd quite like to buy The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini first.
Also, what is the difference between abridged and unabridged?

Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.

Abridged means that the book has been shortened or adjusted to a spoken form better for the audio book.
Unabridged are better for those that want the experiance of reading a book, useing the mind to picture the sceen etc Abridged are for those that want to listen to the story. Itsall about personal preferance.
I have bought audio books from waterstones in the past on CD and converted them to MP3 and put them on my mp3 player. there are other sources for mp3's

I like audio books too. I usually get them on CD from my library. Don't think they can legally be uploaded to an IPOD;)0

So is it easy to get them from a CD to an ipod?

Hia, You can hire audio books from your local library. Best of luck.
