Questions re. going (back) to College

I’m currently temping in the Marketing Department of an FE college, and recently (probably unsurprisingly given the current economic climate) I’ve noticed a lot of posts from people wishing to re-train or upskill themselves…
Purely because I’m curious – I’m not trying to recruit anyone or anything like that – I have two questions:
Purely because I’m curious – I’m not trying to recruit anyone or anything like that – I have two questions:
- What would be the deciding factors in you going (back) to college?
- How much bearing would an advertising campaign – either good or bad – have on your decision?
If I don't respond to your posts, it's probably because you're on my 'Ignore' list.

hiya.
I'd think about going back (esp during a recession) if I was made redundant and could afford to!
1. I'll never get made redundant from college/uni
2. When the recession has passed and everyone's fighting for new jobs, then I'd have a better chance at getting one with better money etc due to being more qualified.
3. If I really couldn't find a job it's a grand way to spend my time.
4. Could be the ideal opportunity to retrain/change careers to something slightly more recession proof for next time.
Personal reasons for me going back to college would purely be to get a better job at the end of it. If I saw a poster for a particular college advertising something like this, yes, I'd definitely take notice

Thanks for the reply! Prior to this job, I hadn't done much work in the education sector so I'm quite interested in people's responses...Reds-on-Sea wrote: »Personal reasons for me going back to college would purely be to get a better job at the end of it. I guess though you would notice any kind of advertising, good or bad – you just can't help it when you're a Graphic Designer!

I think it's definitely an area to be taken advantage of when there's no jobs around. Most people (unless they're REALLY lazy) would rather be using their time productively if they haven't got work. It'd work on me if I hadn't already thought of it....haha if that makes sense! It's all about taking positive action during a negative time.0
