Complicated-need legal advice thanks

Sorry this is a bit long-winded but here goes.
In 2007 I bought a couple of domain names and some hosting from 1&1 internet with the idea of marketing our holiday cottage. I had to put my credit card details on the site which would be automatically charged once per year. I have to admit that due to life getting complicated-moving house etc I forgot all about doing this and never used the site.

In September last year they sent me an email saying they had tried to take payment and the card was declined-it was actually out of date. I emailed them and through a link on their email I cancelled my account and asked if i owed them anything and if they would let me know so i could close the account.

A few days later i received a letter saying that as i had failed to provide new card details within 7 days they had sent my account to some collections company. I had to ring them, which i did. The girl said i owed £33.13-i sent a cheque which was cleared in my bank.

I thought that was it. However in January i got another email saying i owed them £36-i thought this must be a mistake and emailed back to ask tehm to check their records. A couple of days later i got a letter -an account letter saying i owed £-27.26-so i thought this must be them readjusting my account and that the difference might be due to the recent vat changes!!

I emailed them to confirm and they replied saying that they had closed the account due to an unpaid amount of £15.13 (AAAARRRGGGHHHH)!!!!. Every letter and email had a different refernce number and account reference so i was totally confused. Anyway i again asked for confirmation-did i owe them anything. Back came an email which said-"I can confirm that the account is now closed and no monies are owing". Phew sigh of relief.

Last night i got an email saying they have tried today to debit my card (doesn't say how much for) and it was declined. I can't log onto my account as they have closed it. The call centre is in India and they are totally useless. I am afraid that i am going to end up with some sort of black mark on my otherwise whiter than white credit report because of these idiots. I am alos furious that they tried to debit my card when they say i don't owe them anything. What do i do next????

Many thanks for reading.
