renovating suitcase

Options
Just got our 'fibreglass' type suitcases out of the garage and given them a dust off. But they look a bit shabby (after effects of many baggage handlers). I don't want to go to the expense of buying new ones as basically they are still very functional and sturdy. They are dark grey Delsey cases and I've washed them and give them a polish with clear shoe polish, but they still need 'something' else to disguise the scratches.....Some of the scratches have slightly raised edges, but I think sandpaperring them might make them stand out more. Wondered about T cut or respraying
So if any one has any bright ideas or have managed to restore their cases to nearly their former glory I love to hear

I don't think you want to sand them as it might lead to a weak spot where if its 'dunted' right it'll split. As for sprays etc they do end up coming off and the last thing you want if you're grabbing your case off the conveyor belt (not always able to grab handle depending how its been loaded) is covered in spray paint etc which may crack or peel. If you really want to jazz up your suitcase then stickers might be an idea or thin strips of sticky back plastic for a few stripes. You don't want anything thats raised too much though so it doesn't snag. I've done a lot of travelling and in the end as long as my suitcase got there and back in one piece I was happy. My old faithful is now very scratched and has a few dents but it still serves its purpose. The only thing I've added to mine was neon string wound round the handle so it would stand out.

You could try the clear T-cut on a hidden bit - just do an inch square and see how it dries. It always amazes me what they recommend T-cut for - OH has a shiny black piano and a professional restorer/tuner told him that's what everyone uses. It certainly covers up the dings and scratches so I'd give it a go on the cases, just in an inconspicuous area.
