Tax Codes - will I need to do anything?

I am currently employed in two jobs, my alowances are on my day job.

On 20th February I will leave my full time day job, but will still have my part time evening job, this will be the case until 2nd March, when I will again have two jobs, a full time day job and a part time evening job.

I will carry on like this for a further 3 weeks - and then I will only have the one job.

Do I need to inform the tax office, or will they automatically know?

You can let them know so that they can ensure your employment record is up to date and they don't start proceedings to make your part-time job your main source. That's unlikely though as there is such a short period of time between your main jobs and HMRC are currently taking longer than usual to work post because of all the claims for a refund for 2002/2003.
But you really need to give your new employer the P45 from the job you are leaving as soon as you get it to maintain your main tax code.

I will do. Thanks for that. It's going from Council to Police so at least I know I'll get my P45 quickly - fingers crossed anyway!
