Credit Files

As all things seem to be changing due to the economic climate, could any body advise me on why the system for the credit files can not be looked at more carefully, to make it easier for people to gain access on to credit.
As I am aware it takes almost 6 years for things to clear from a credit file or even longer so in order for those banks to even look at lending it will be very hard to prodress forward.I understand that there should be a system in place to tell the bank authorities who to lend to as we are all aware that there are alot of people out there who will misuse this.I like most decent folk have made decisions in our lives that have been good honest mistakes and have tried to contact these companies to rectify our situation, unfortunatley many doors have been slammed in our faces and our credit files shattered through these so called Banks who dont want to listen. This has made most good honest hard earning tax payers be turned away for doing the right thing.
I have been to advice centres, national and local also sent letters to companies and also had ill health with threatening letters phone calls etc.
As banks and businesses are being bailed out , through there so called genuine honest mistakes how come the decent tax payers can not get this sort of area looked at. If it's good enough for Banks to make major mistakes and the goverment to bail them out then how come it's not good enough for the tax payers to get a bail out as well.

I say let's start a petition who will join me on wanting the credit sytem reviewed to make it fairer for all those good honest and have proof that say they have been unfairly treated by these Banks , to have there credit filescleaned up to enable a forward direction for future progression.

  • I don't think it could ever be the case that the slate is wiped clean with credit files.

There are plenty of folk out there that take out credit with no intention of paying it back. There are also plenty that bite of more than they can chew and then can't afford to pay it back. If the slate was wiped clean then lenders would have no clue whatsoever as to what people pose risks to them if they handed out money.

On the other hand, I'm all for them reducing the amount of time that black marks stay on your file for. I had problems making payment towards credit soon after leaving school and am still paying for it now, even though I have a stable job (for a number of years now) with a good salary and have since grown up a lot from my days of being irresponsible with my money.

  • Cheers for getting back, it's my first time posting.
I understand what you say and this is to all decent folk who have made genuine honest mistakes through there life as just with the banks and certain businesses.
The whole idea behind this is on all 3 credit files that hold information which I do say is a good idea to keep information like this, i to went thorough difficulties in life and have tried to do the honest procedures in contacting the companies in the right way and had my door shut in my face.
I have all the proof to back up my claim and wish for anyone with the same to come forward and make a claim towards this and have certain areas amended.
    thank you for your reply.
  • I'm new to the site as well, only posted a few times and it just so happens all my queries have been to do with credit files!

I'm all for the powers that be having a look at the system to see if it can be made any fairer to consumers though.

I'm sick of being told that I can't get credit for this, that and the next thing when like you I have made the mistakes in the past and tried to do the right thing to keep on top of it by making payments and clearing off debt. Now that I'm in a secure position where I can afford to take on debt and am responsible enough to deal with it, I can't get it for love nor money!

I've had a few things drop of my credit file recently due to the 6 years timeline elapsing but I still think its unfair. I feel a large percentage of their decision when deciding whether to issue you credit or not should be based on your most recent history, i.e, the past 3 years or so. The older credit accounts can then be reviewed as a reference to how well you kept on top of credit prior to that.

    Just my 2p worth.

    Cheers,
    Graeme
