Hmmm....what are your savings for exactly if not to fund your commitments.....:(

Heh yes I agree 100%!!!! Why on earth should people expect to rely on taxpayers money to pay the interest on a mortgage whilst you have £5000 sat on deposit!!!!

My wife is 66 and I am 61 and have received Pension Credit Guarantee each week since 22/10/09. No I can't work - I am ill.

We did have £6000 of savings in October 2009 when I made the claim for PC. I didn't find out until January 2010 that I could have had help paying the interest - I thought that you had to wait 3 months.
I filled the application forms in when I received them in March 2010, and to date have still not had a penny in help other than or normal Pension Guarantee Credit payment. We now have only £1600 left of our savings after paying the mortgage each month.
I'm not complaining because that is WHY I had the money put away for just this sort of reason.
We have been told that the first payment will be made to the bank next month (July).

    Hello,

Your wife is 66 and you are 61. Why isn't your mortgage paid off before your wife retired?

ummm!! Maybe because we have not been able to because of lack of income!!
My wife has never worked from 1981 when she had our twin girls. She found that it was a full tinme job brining up the children. And since they now have children of their own, she has been an unpaid child minder in order that they can go to work.

As regards me, I have never been able to earn very much so finding the money to keep on top of the mortgage payments has always been difficult.

Not everybody has a private pension and not everybody has good health!!!!

Hi everyone. We are currently 2 months behind on our mortgage with First Active (RBS). Initially, we were hoping this would onlybe temporary, so BEFORE we went into arrears I called them to try and get onto interest only for a while. They said no, because we didnt have an endowment to cover, but they would agree to 3 months half payment. Well, the 3 months have past now, hubbys still unemployed and we're struggling to survive on my wage alone. RBS want their arrears (and I want to pay them!).

I've been in touch with the CCCS, they told us about the Homeowners Mortgage Scheme and said the lender should put us on interest only to qualify. I spoke to them yesterday but the refused again - because we're in arrears! Not only that, they wouldnt acknowledge CCCS and said we need to see CAB as they have the forms! (I did try and call CCCS straight after, but the line closes at 6pm)

I've made an appointment with the CAB now - but if they wont switch us to interest only temporarily, then we wont qualify for help!

Does anyone have a clue how to negotiate with them?? I've tried - and failed dismally to get anywhere! I was considering writing to them as they clearly dont understand what it is that I'm trying to do!

Cos how can you be gloomy, when the sun shines out your bum? :D
  • Maybe your twin daughters should pay your wife for her 'unpaid childminding' to their kids since you are both in 60's and your wife gave up her career to bring them up!

skcollobcat10 - thats excellent you working full time with 3 kids but some like to be there for their kids as opposed to others bringing them up and caring for them when they are small!
  • I was getting my mortgage paid in full (I'm with the Midshires)by the DWP because i was made an invalid after being assaulted. Anyway,Two years into the govt paying my mortgage the DWP had me arrested and stopped paying my mortgage. The reason. Someone had said i had undeclared income and assets(all lies) so all my benefits got stopped dead, everything. Not a light did i have to live on,except the DLA i had that was not a means tested benefit so they couldn't touch that. Nevertheless i was just getting enough each week to pay for food and gas and electric and nothing else. All i can tell anyone in a similar situation is DO NOT GIVE UP i didn't i basically told the Midshires that they would get their money when i got mine. I went to the local CAB(useless shower), the local solicitor on legal aid, again absolutely useless,it wasn't until i travelled through to Glasgow(55 mls away) and employed a legal aid lawyer through there that i found through an internet website(sorry i forgot it's name) did things begin to move. To cut a long story short the DWP paid me £3900 back money owed and £3500 owed to the Midshires with not so much as an apology. I am thinking of suing them for the damage they b......s done to my brain during those dreadful months. The moral of this tale is,if you are in the right NEVER EVER give up,keep fighting and use the law against them,i only wish i had went to a decent set of lawyers when they first stopped my money because the DWP are scared of it when lawyers get involved. Do not argue with them, employ a good set of legal-aid lawyers and let them earn their fee.:j
