They wont pay me job seekers!

I was laid off from work in October 08 and claimed JSA almost straight away. I got paid some and my next sign on date was 1st December 08 although that was the start date of my new job. I sent in that little booklet to them I'd found a job but all they keep saying is that I never signed on so I'm not entitled to that 13 days of JSA. I said the whole point was to get back into work and as soon as I do I get penalised for it because I can’t go in to sign on. Every time I call up to complain about this and advise I’m due to this payment they tell me a manager will have to call me back. This has happened 3 times now and still no call. Anybody got any advice how I can get my 13 days of JSA?

I personally would write a letter to the manager of your local JCP detailing what you have stated on this forum and ask for an explanation as to why you will not get paid the 13 days jobseekers allowance. They are usually fairly prompt to replying to customer letters and if you do not agree with the explanation I am sure you have the right to appeal. They must have details of when you initially phoned up the JCP call centre to say when your claim started and the length of time for your claim should not be in dispute. If they do pay you, you may only get 10 days job seekers allowance as they do not count the 1st 3 days of a new claim.0

Have they confirmed that they received your signing-off slip? It's conceivable that this got lost in the internal post, and they can't close your claim without it.
If that's the case, they could send you a form ES40S with a return envelope for you to give them the information again. The problem will be if they closed your claim as 'Failed To Sign'.
The only other suggestion I can make is that you write to the manager of the job centre and ask about making a 'Retrospective Claim' for the period.Fokking Fokk!0 -
thing is I've had loads of problems with my claim and I had to write a letter in. I gavr the letter in with the signing off booklet. they receaved the letter but "claimed" the booklet wasn't with it even though I handed over both personally. I feel that even with all the hassle I've had when I've been told a manager will call me and they don't it's just not on!0
