My bargains of the week

Options
My dd1 works for Morrisons, and at the end of the night a lot of stuff is reduced, well last night due to the snow the place was deserted and i think her manager was feeling very generous, she came home with
satsumas and tangerines, 2 bags for 19p ( we have 6 bags  ), white cobs, 2 pks for 9p ( again 6 pks) a large pineapple for 9p and a cream cakes also reduced, my fruit bowl and freezer are straining under the weight lol.
Think my frugel ways have rubbed off lol, when she got the cobs out she said they can go in the freezer for another time lol.

    Exellent! :D

My OH popped into asda on his way home from work the other night at about 10.30pm. They were giving away swede lol... So he brought home 6 swedes, and 2 bags of chopped swede... all for free! :D

Good find! I do love a good bargain... I got some new pots for 16p a bag yesterday from asda and the bags are very generous in size
Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.

Its great to see the stores reducing the food rather than just binning it,
i used to work in supermarkets and know just how much can be thrown out and wasted, its criminal

i had to pop to morrisons for some baby milk. they had so much crusty bread roll's. packs of 6 for 9p. and 4 the best ones for 9p. i don't freeze bread and won't use them but my mum does so she got loads. i however did get some for the bird for tomoz. as i figured even if i won't use it i love feeding the bird's in my garden so it won't go to waste.
  • Great bargains!

I did well last thurs tea time at sainsburys where I never shop normally (just fancied a change). I got 2 packs of courgettes (7 in total) at 19p a pack. Love courgettes (luckily)! Also some ready trimmed mixed veg (cauli, brocolli, carrot, pea pods) for 29p. Might go again at the same time :) Usually go Friday morning when it is like a zoo or do shopping online and while good for sticking to a list, you get no whoopsies at all.

I went to Asda yesterday and saw a member of staff bagging up loose bananas and pricing them at 25p so picked up a couple of bags. Later on, further round the shop MIL spotted them and asked me to go back and get her some. The staff member had gone but there were two huge boxes of damaged bananas. I asked another staff member about them, only to be told they were "no good" - no good for what? We were planning to make chutney and banana cakes . I even asked to speak to the Manager about their waste policy but he was "in a meeting". I was really annoyed - it's not like we were asking for them for free - but they prefer to throw them away!!

I intend to write a letter but don't expect to get a reply. (By the way, I gave MIL one of my bags).

My local Tescos has been reducing stuff by 90% ever since they refurbished into a larger store. I thought it was a temporary blip as they got their ordering sorted, but no, they still do it five months later. Except they've stopped "giving away" their fresh breads (baked 3pm, 10p by 6pm :T) prefering to throw it out. But packaged breads, fruit, veg and other groceries are always stickered. I used to go mad and get there every day and we spent maybe 40p on bread for the week at most for months. But now the novelty has worn off. And I am able to leave a pack of 20p strawberries, or 10p potatoes or 9p loaf of bread, because I know we still have some at home. I love my Tescos!
Plays havoc with mealplanning, but it is so weird to buy ingredients as normal "£1.50 for a cauliflower?? £1.99 for a pack of oranges?" Suddenly the normal prices seem extorsionate.
