Received a Statutory demand for BR What should I do?

Hi all.

Today I received a letter from Crapquest debt recovery enclosing a statutory demand for a BR petition for a debt relating to Egg credit card from about 8 or 9 yeas ago. I was led to believe that you cannot be chased for a debt for more than 6 years after it was last acknowledged? (I have not acknowledged it in anyway during this time). The debt is for £1152. which includes interest of £387.
Also, am I correct in thinking that the letter should have arrived by recorded delivery so that it was actually received at my address to me? as it was posted normally and actually went next door, so if it wasn't for their honesty I would never have received it anyway?

Is this something that I should genuinely be worried about or is it scare tactics on their behalf? Any help would be most appreciated......

Crapquest seem to have got 1st crudit blight, sending out Sds like confetti.
They do this because there is no legal cost, just postage.

Send them the standard statute barred letter. Take advice from NDL but I doubt if they would dare take it further after they recieve the letter.

And do a search for lowellcrooks who I think had a similiar problem with Lowell.

Sounds to me like Crapquest are "chancing their arms". As RAS said, send them the statute barred letter and hopefully that will knock them for six!

  • Hi guys many thanks for your replies. I have today posted out the statute barred letter and will await (if I get one) a reply from them. After reading through some of the posts on here and on the consumer action group's site it seems as though it is a widespread thing with them. I will also be reporting them to trading standards as they should not be allowed to bully and intimidate people in the way they do. Will let you know the outcome.
