Resignation help.. can they do this?

Hi

I wondered if anyone could help/ give me some advice.

I work for a hospital trust as a Project manager, and have got another job. I was very open with my boss and the director that i had another job even beofre I got the paper work. I discussed with them that I had completed my current projects and was in the best interest of both parties that i only work 2 week notice... brillaint.

Today I have handed my notice in and they have said they now want me to work 4 weeks notice... ok little miffed but fair play.

But I have now been told that I will be working for a completely different hospital no where near where i normally work, for trust I dont work for and doing a role that is different from what I do now.

I just wondered can they do this? Basically the other director works for two hospitals completely seperate and he is short staffed in his other role so whats me to work my 4 weeks notice there, it will take me longer to get there cost me £5 a day parking and feel out of my depth doing a job i'm unsure off.

also bit miffed that in my current role they were happy for me to work 2 weeks, and have said this for week now so made few plans around that.. I know I shouldnt have but thought the directors word was that.... any advice much appreciated.

Your contract of employment will state who your employer is. You need to serve your notice to that employer, not another.

Tell them you will need training in order to perform this new role.

Make sure you get your reference BEFORE you leave. If it's a case of choosing between upsetting an old employer or a new employer, always go for the former.

Theres nothing stopping the ex-employer writing you another reference to reflect what you did.

Do what 90% of nhs workers would do - go on the sick for your last 4 weeks - stress
