Hi, I was just clearing out one of our cupboards and found two out of date Schwartz packet mixes lurking at the back (bought in the days before we were trying to be OS!)
One is a Moroccan Lamb Casserole dated BBE Dec 2008 and the other is a Mexican Chilli Chicken dated BBE Jan 2009.
Not wanting to waste them, would these still be ok to eat this week? It's just the spices and seasoning in them so I guess the flavour just might not be as strong but they would still be perfectly fine to eat. Is that right?
Thanks

I've always used them after the best before date. My understanding is that Best Before Dates mean nothing it's the Use By date that you've got to be careful with especially on fresh poultry etc. I always go off the smell, taste & look of something before I eat it, not the dates put on by manufacturers. I wouldn't eat meat or poultry though if I was unsure.
They'll probably taste just as good as they ever would have done - it's only really a month gone. HTH0 -

With a product like this, it's the dried packet mix, right?, I'd have no problem using it even up to a year out of date.
I'm old enough to remember the days when products like that (and tinned foods) had no date on them. Our mums and grandmums kept stuff like this in the pantry for years.1 -
just use it it wont kill you or will it ????0

Use it up!Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.0

Approved foods sell stuff that is longer out of date than that. We are currently eating mini pringles that were BBE April 08 and drinking Orange juice that was BBE Aug 08.Mortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!0
