I have spent the last year making my own wine using 7 or 30 day kits and it has been very successful. We never buy any wine at all and make bog standard cheap stuff for us at home but always have some of the more expensive stuff for visitors. Does anyone make the spirit kits.? I know they are only 20% and distilling is illegal but how good are the spirit kits???

Made some years ago they tasted okay but were not anything special
remember making whiskey and ginger but most of what you could taste was 'atificial' flavours, saying that they did have a bit of a kick to them. Have not made them since they may have improved,. Just stick to making wine from the hedgerows now been making it for so long we know what we like.
But if you have a go at making those kits would be interested to know how they turned out.0 -
I also tried the spirits kits ages ago, with the same results as tramps, it was all a bit fiddly I seem to remember, never tried again and stuck with wine / beerEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0

We used to take a winemakers magazine and there were regular mentions that distillation was illegal.
Even the method where you put your wine into a shallow dish in the freezer and scooped off the ice crystals as they formed thereby concentrating what was left.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0
