Anybody work in HR?

Hi, quick question for anybody who works in HR please.
My daughter was informed that she was being suspended on full pay, due to her being pregnant and the employer needing to clarify if she was okay to continue in a certain role. She was told on Friday that the suspension would be at least 1 day (i.e today).
Her manager rang her at 2.30 pm today to say she had been given the okay to work. My daughter replied that she would see her tomorrow. Her manager then said, no, she wanted her to go into work there and then, even though her shift was due to finish at 4.30 pm and she would have had to go home and put her uniform on which would take at least 20 minutes and then 15 minutes to travel to work (more today due to the snow). Her manager commented that she would have to work the late shift (until 6.30 pm) even though it wasn't her turn. Anyhow she couldn't do this as she had a GP appointment anyway and finished at 5.00 pm in the end. Is the manager allowed to do this, bearing in mind that it was the managers decision to suspend her? In addition, when she got into work, she was informed that she was NOT going to be paid, and that she may be asked to make up the hours.
Is this right, and is she allowed to do this?
She is having a few problems at work and the manager really has it in for her.
Any advice appreciated.

If she was told it would be a one day suspension (is there a witness?), then she should not have been expected to go in for the end of her shift. And, obviously, she should be paid as it was. quite rightly, to be suspension on full pay.
I would suggest writing to HR confirming her understanding of the situation - that she was to be suspended on full pay for at least today and that she nevertheless was called in for part of her shift.0 -
Can be suspended for Helath & Safety Reasons but must be on full pay. Get an appointment card from the GP to say the appointment was for preganancy related reasons then the time off for the Dr's must also be paid. Does the company have a HR Department your daughter should ask them for information, they may not be aware of what the manger is doing and it may be that the manager simply needs some re-aligning (with a brick by the sounds of it!). If no HR department then try managers manager or MD. Phrase it along the lines of X suspended me for H&S Reasons when they found out I was pregnant, and has since told me this is unpaid - I don't think this can be right rather than full aggressive attack. If this doesn't work PM me and I will give you the right words to use and the right bits of legislation to quote in a complaint letter.

Thank you both for your replies, had to dash off quickly as she has had to go up to Maternity with severe back pain. Hopefully it will turn out to be a urine infection or something else simple as she is only 25 weeks pregnant.
She is going to contact HR and she has emailed the Occupational Health for their advice.
