I want bargains - buying my first house!

Hi everyone
I've just bought my first house at the grand olld age of 23. Im really pleased with it and in preparation for moving in in around 4 weeks, I'm looking for bargains to fill the house with!
I'm pretty skint now, as every penny will be going on deposit and associated buying house fees, so excuse my 'cheapness' but bargains are required, lol.
I managed to find in my local 99p store - 3 coffee mugs, 3 sets of cutlery, 3 glasses, 6 plates, and 6 side plates. A bargain for a total price of £4.95 I think!
Don't think I really need large items (such as beds, fridge.etc.) at the start, as my brother is hopefully getting my a bed (as he's a removals man so oftenn has things given to him to take away), and previous owners left the fridge.
I did see a great deal of a kettle, iron, blender and toaster for £15 on here, but that's sold out.
But anything else you think may be handy, I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks in advance.

You can get I think it's 12 piece dinner services in asda for £3 at the min, just bog standard white but ok for starter set. Likewise I think they have cheap cutlery sets.0

Check out your local asda they sell a whole range of things very cheaply, I kitted out most of my house from here when I moved into my last place (money was very tight and I had a small child aswell!) you can get kettles/irons/toasters for a few quid and they are just as good as some of the more expensive ones.
Register on your local freecycle. https://www.freecycle.org
you can be emailed everytime something new comes up or you can go in and check, people get rid of things, these can be anything from furnitre and fishtanks to cutlery etc! We have had some cracking bargains through ours but not only that I gave away most of my old house contents before moving up here so people can get cracking bargains!Raising kids is like being held hostage by midget terrorists0 -
congratulations!
I was in the same position a few years ago. have you thought of asking family for things they dont use anymore?
also tesco value homeware stuff and primark for bedding/towels etc.
good luck.0 -
Congratulations on buying your first home.
I would suggest that you look into buying a slow cooker as they are really cheap to run and you can cook a good wholesome meal in them using much cheap cuts of meat.
You will also be able to freeze whatever you have left over so that may prevent you being tempted to buy a take away!
I have the Morphy Richards 3.5l which you should be able to buy at Amazon or Argos for just under £20 (thich may sound like a bit of an investment but it will save you money in the long run)

You would also be able to get loads of advice on slow cookers from the Money Saving Old Style Board.... as well as loads of advice on all sorts of other things.
Another appliance to consider is a steamer which again isn't a cheap purchase but will save you money in the long run as you can cook a whole meal in it. You can cook a chicken breast or a piece of salmon/trout along with all your vegetables in about 30 minutes.
You may be able to pick these items up cheaply on ebay or maybe a car boot sale0 -
Charity shops, dunelm mill, argos clearance store if you have one, 99p shops, local paper and Ikea. :-)Bump due 22nd September0

I went to Clearance Bargains a few days ago and think you'll get some great deals in there if it's not too far away from you (there's 3 stores-Corby, Walsall and Stanley). Also look in Home Bargains, as they often have some great prices. Can't beat Freecycle, though!Cross Stitch Cafe Monthly Challenge Member #27

Thanks very much for your replies, they are much appreciated. I have registered on Freecycle - site looks great, and I'm looking forward to getting some stuff! I will have to try out Asda and Tesco etc and find some bargains! Any other advise would be much appreciated.0

I don't know where about are you , but I got lot of stuff for £1 or a little more from ebay, but I had to collect them.
I am renting and i thought I am not spending on stuff that at some point I may throw away .... but for now they are very good.
So try searching ebay in a few miles radius with the options to colect it. They are many people who don't know about freecycle and just want to get rid of stuff.
I got a george foreman grill, a kettle, some chairs, and lots of other stuff...0
