Shaving

This sound a little nerdy but it works for me and it is in the spirit of this site.
King of Shaves began by experimenting with essential oils to lubricate the skin for shaving, he later became a millionnaire.
KOS product is grapeseed oil with a few magic ingredients such as a sniff of aloe vera and the scientific jury is out on whether this really is really beneficial.
The product is well overpriced and you can achieve a comnfortable shave using a good quality vegetable oil such as olive oil. I use a mixed vegetable and nut oil, you can also use corn oil and after a one month trial I can report excellent results.
KOS over £3 for 150ml, I paid £1.50 for 750ml of mixed oil. It is better because you can use more than the recommended 2 drops which seems too little to me.
Other folks have used almond oil with a few drops of lavender and/or peppermint. The list is endless. I dont mess about with smelly expensive oils I just use oil and aftershave which makes me irresistable to women.- That's what it says on the bottle, but after one month I have not verifired this claim.
Bottom line is go for functionality. Lubricate with olive oil for "nearly free".

Thanks for this idea: olive oil can be a little 'heavy' for some people's skin, but you can get grapeseed oil from, for instance, health food shops and some supermarkets, and almond oil is also quite 'light'. I like the idea of adding essential oil to suit.

Any make of hair conditioner will do the trick beautifully. Ive used it for years and never EVER get dry skin after shaving. Just use it out of the bottle to cover the area (I use it on my legs and underarms). Much cheaper than any of the shaving preps on the market and does not dry the skin.

  • My recipe is one third sunflower oil, one third olive oil, one third shower gel for the right kind of blokey smell. I also add a couple of drops of tea tree oil for antiseptic properties.

Works for me, your mileage may vary though.

I tried this after having a very nice shaving creme from bodyshop from which I decoded the ingredients and then experimented.
