I'd say that only the focus/astra/modeo/vectra are the only ones mainly bought by lease companies.
what about the ka/fiesta/fusion/c-max/s-max/kuga etc (and thats just the fords!)?
you're calling an awful lot of people over 60 stupid there then I take it (ie the majority of fiesta drivers). that or all those cars just magicly appear in the dealers as used cars.

So a Focus 1.8tdi = for stupids
but a Focus ST = for non-stupids
Why?
Whats wrong with new fords or vauxies compared to other new cars?[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Rise like Lions after slumber

You could not make this up could you..
its an interesting one isnt it? i was reading yesterday how all the manufacturers were refusing to advertise new cars at discounted prices as it supposedly looked like they were desperate, but if you asked you could get up to 40% off. surely this attitude wasnt working already before increasing the prices.
isnt it time they had a bit of a sale and tried to reduce their stock levels to survive like most other retailers are already doing? im not a genius, but it seems sensible to me to recover 60% of the value of 1000s of cars now to get the cash flowing rather than them all begining to rott in fields and still only sell for 60% (if that) value in a years time?0 -

Oh, there may be other reasons. Kia for example gives a 7 year guarantee although some people's brand snobbery precludes them. Skoda and Seat are also very good - just cheaper VWs. Again, I suspect the badge thing comes into it....
But why is a focus ST, for example, not a stupid purchase whereas a bog standard focus is?
IMO, a Focus ST is pretty much the limit of essex-boy-ricer stupidity, but then i dont know an awful lot about cars except how to drive them safely for 14 years without and accident...

I doubt essex boy racers could afford insurance on an ST. Unless you mean joy riders... (which is probably why insurance is so high!)But we can enjoy buying product made in the UK. All this does is help Honda/Nissan/Toyota, and to a lesser extent Jaguar.
PS And if GM are putting up the price of the Astra, which is built here, I hope the UK public see them for what they are, and shun the company for its greed
Well both are increasing prices, yet both manufacture vehicles in the UK (Ford do Transit, not sure what else). It's a short step for others to follow on. Even if parts are manufactured here they have still needed to import raw materials (eg Honda have parts coming from Eatern Europe, Far East, etc, prior to assembly). Most components have seen rises in material costs. OEMs cant ask for costs to be absorbed at all either as margins are very frugal generally.matched betting: £879.63

And to reiterate the point I made earlier, the manufacturer increasing its list price will made sod-all difference to joe public. Cars are not sold at list price and dealers are falling over themselves to offer the biggest discounts to attract whatever business is still out there.
And its not just cars that have similar issues. I sell food products which have a list price completely unrelated to the crazy bargain prices retailers sell some of the products for. Every year the list price of one of them goes up, and the retail price in the supermarkets goes down.0 -

It will come out somewhere, the food retail market is different to the automotive industry. Dealers may offer a 40% discount but it will now be 40% off a higher list price, dealers will probably pay slightly more for vehicles.matched betting: £879.63

I think they will still sell for similar prices, but it's an excuss to ramp up the balloons on cars and larger DEAL OF THE CENTURY banners as the deal is 'getting better' !!
It's scientific fact that people can't help but be tempted when they see balloons tied to a car on a garage forecourt - it's a sure sign of excellence and a genuine bargain to be had!!!!0
