Hi all,
I would be really interested to find out if anyone has heard of the Initial screening events that the NHS hold after job applications have been submitted. I'm waiting to find out if I have been invited, but would love to hear about them if anyone has any details.
I would really appreciated some help
Thanks Sarah

Think they are just referring to the process by which someone in HR looks through all the applications and checks that they meet the minimum requirements in the person spec. So if one doesn't (perhaps based abroad with no right to work in the UK or doesn't have specified qualification), they are screened out from further consideration.0

Thank you for this

It is a bit bizarre though, as on the application form it says that the Initial Screening Event is at 2.30pm on the specific date with interviews 2 weeks later. Have you ever heard about or seen this before?0 -
What is the post for? I've been in the NHS for 17 years and never heard of one.0

Again I think it is to show they are doing things by the book. You have to get your application in on time and they will look at all applications at the stated time rather than as they come in. They may also use it for long-/short-listing for interviews given they mention the date for the interview.0 -
I had this when I went for a new job after the whole AfC came through- they notified me it was happening like LittleVoice said but said nothing about me coming in for it!

Hi all,
Thank you ever so much for the information and help. The job is for Category Manager in a NHS procurement hub. This is the first time that I've applied to the NHS.
Definitely keeping everything crossed that I get to the assessment day.
Thank you for the luck ringadingding
p.s. will post info if I find out anything further just in case this question ever arises again. Take care all0 -
I work in the NHS and have done for years, although on the nursing side I am sure that the initial screening can be compared to the short-listing procedure that HR/managers do together...I might be wrong though if I am I apologise.I know a lot more people apply for non Nursing positions.
When I have to short list we have to adhere very specifically to the applications and compare what they have written to the person specification that comes with the job. It is very important that you give actual evidence that you can do even the basic skills like IT and communication so they can be cross referenced with the job spec and those meeting all criteria are then asked for an interview. It has to visible and fair and if in doubt people are invited for interview.
If you get as far as the interview ... the same goes for the interview procedure and every one is asked the same questions and each person is marked against specific criteria experience qualification skills communication. Then the postion is given to the person who comes out with the highest mark.
If you are in any doubt phone the department where you have applied to see if you can speak to the line manager....Are they able to discuss the post with you or let you have a tour of the building...It all helps ... get as much prep as you can before you go.I hope you get through to interview....0 -
Hi Tobyjug,
Thank you ever so much for your reply. It was really useful
I think I will take your advice on phoning the department, especially now that the deadline is over.
I have been preparing for interviews just in case and reading around the subject etc
My application was 7 sides of A4 as I was determined to cover every aspect of the job spec, even like you said down to IT skills and communication.
I so hope I get an interview too...
Thank you again for your help

Hello all that posted a response to this thread,
I got invited to the Initial Screening event on Friday 6th February and it was a whole day event. During the day, we had to do numeric and verbal reasoning tests, a personal mini presentation and group exercises. Overall it was an extremely enjoyable and interesting day.
The thinking behind it was to let potential candidates get to know the organisation and ask questions.
If anyone has to go on one of these I recommend doing some practice tests and going to bed early the night before.
Thanks again to all that helped answer this query.
Kind regards Sarah0 -
