Thanks everyone. I think we'll ask the venue if they would allow us to provide our own wine and what corkage they would charge. Failing that I think we'll skip the wine on the tables and have a drink of choice after the reception plus another drink for the toast (either of their choice or a sparkling wine).

    Does that sound mean?????

No it doesn't sound mean- I would be tempted to ask if there is any flexibility in their prices though.

Watch your venue re the 'inclusive drinks package'. It's not the first time I've been to a wedding where wine has been put on the table, some has been left in the bottle, the bottles get collected and poured into one bottle and then sold back to you later on, or goes into bar stock.

I have to say it was niggling at me that we would be getting charged for bottles that may only have had a glass out of them. I never thought about it getting sold back. That's a good point. Thanks.

Our venue has a drinks option of about £8.95 a head for Bucks fizz on arrival at the reception, glass of wine with the meal and sparkling wine for the toasts.

After that I know my guests won't mind buying their own drinks from the bar.

Hi Louise.... thats the same as we are doing, same price too!:T

Hehe - Everyone will be on to the beer and spirits from the bar after the meal anyway - so they can keep thier leftover wine :rotfl:

OH MY GOODNESS!!! I cannot believe these places!! You should negotiate flat-rate corkage!!!! Even £100 is loads but much better than what you're paying  If we hadn't negotiated flat-rate we wouldn't have been able to provide drinks for our guests, the only option would have been to stick some money behind the bar for specific drinks, but even that wouldn't get us much!
