Make-up brushes???

IM

Ladies (I presume...) I need your help.
My wife has dropped into a number of recent conversations that she "really could do with some good make-up brushes" (her previous ones probably having disappeared into the black hole that is a certain 14 year old's bedroom...).
I'm presuming that 'good' is a wifely euphemism for 'expensive', but beyond buying the most expensive ones I can find (yeah, right :P) any suggestions before I set off on The Great Christmas Shopping TripTM would be very gratefully received.

I'd start with Boots - they have their own brand No. 7 which is reasonably priced and good quality for the price.
In the larger stores they also have the more expensive brands such as Clinique, Clarins, Esti lauder etc.
If you want to get the 'right' brush set - I would take a look at your wife's make-up brands and head for the appropriate counters at Boots and discuss it with the sales assistants there.
If you would like to buy her a reasonably priced, good quality set - head for the No. 7 counter at Boots and ask the assistant for advise.0 -
swattie - Just so I know... How much am I talking here? ???0

Cheap make up brushes are not really worth bothering with. The Boots ones are good for the price though and Bodyshop do nice ones that average about £5-10 each. In my experience the best set of budget brushes are the Tesco ones by Barbara Daly - They look nice and the quality is fantastic.
If you really wanted to treat your wife get her a set of Mac brushes - You can get a set of holiday ones in a case for about £50 - if you wanted to get her the full set in a case then you are looking at £100! Don't be shocked - they are an investment and your wife will look fantastic!
On the cheap cheap end of the scale - Home Bargains are doing a set at the moment for an incredible £3.99, you get 10 brushes and a fancy case. They are ok, just bought a couple of sets for my sisters who take great pleasure in putting green eyeshadow on my beloved mac set! There are many things in life that will catch your eye, only a few will catch your heart. Pursue those.0 -
I have to agree - cheap quality brushes are not even worth looking at. They tend to fall to bits quickly and they don't feel very nice when applying your make-up. They often don't even do the job that well either.
I have a set of sable brushes and they are fantastic. They are nearly 5 years old and are as good now as the day I got them - and they do get used every day :). Mine came in a velour roll-up case and the only name on them is 'The Sable Collection' - can't help any more than that. I think they cost around £35 when I got them. Maybe just do a search to see what is around.
Oh, and for those of you who don't know, never use soap to wash your brushes - always use shampoo and even conditioner. That's what I'll be using my OS for. ;D0 -
pick a pack of 5 up in poundland ;D0

Tesco instore have quite a nice set of brushes reduced from £9.99 to £4.99. I have only looked at them so can't say anything about the quality.0

IM, I don't know what your budget is, but I've just been looking on the QVC website. They have some nice brush sets (search on make up brush)
Before you decide, you might like to find out about your wife's preferences, if she has any and what sor of make up she tends to use. The 14 yr old 'brush thief' may be able to help if you don't want to ask directly.
I only say this because the Models Prefer set is good, but it's double ended - great for keeping the number of brushes down, but no good for me as I like to store my brushes in a pot.
Crem do brushes which are better for cream make up.
Ariane Poole 7 pc set (approx £32) is my fave and if I were her, I'd be really pleased with these. Also, if she doesn't like them then you have the 30 day return.
Just a few thoughts, but if she is after some special brushes, then I'd steer clear of your bog standard supermarket ones - budget permitting of course. Not to say supermarket ones are no good, but some of the above may impress her that you've put thought into the gift and after all - what we women want most of all.

As already mentioned, Barbara Daly at Tesco-really nice brushes, had mine for a while and still great, not expensive either but still quite stylish. I also like bodyshop brushes and the Mac ones are lovely. I also have some by estee lauder which aren't so great (hairs keep falling out!
).
