Do you mean Higher Education or Further Education? There are further ed courses in social care that could be free if you don't have many qualifications- I'm not sure these will ever be distance learning - as social care courses have a practical element with work placements (I work in a Further Ed college). You could 'phone Learndirect -they can often point you in the right direction- even if it's not a Learndirect course that you want - they give impartial advice. Depending on your income, some of their courses could be free if they were suitable.
  • I am qualified up to level 4 but I am unemployed and unable to find work so I thought a career change would be a good idea. Thanks for your advice. i will phone Learndirect.

There is a large-ish section and database on the directgov website.
Green and minimal chemicals is the new black- I know a fair old bit about sustainability, specially energy and transport stuff. If I can help- please ask!

I remember when I did Open University a couple of years ago they had a scheme where by if you were on a lower income you didnt pay for the course.. I was earning about £15k at the time so I qualified for that.

They do diplomas, certificates and degrees but I dont know if the financial help was just for scotland?

You can always chekc it out. I got a Law diploma and a Social Science diploma and a Certificate in Psychology all for nothing! xx

There's financial help for anybody studying at degree level part time and on a low income. This could be with the OU or a traditional university.
