my mum uses her back step to sharpen knives .. i dont have a back step but have taken knives round to sharpen - my bread knife has not blunted so i have never tried it!Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. For knife sharpeners and "amateur" usage, I strongly recommend one of the little X-shaped ones - they are much easier to use properly and also much, much safer than the long professional ones. Do not waste your money on any electric ones.
I was not aware that serrated knives could be sharpened, but if they can, I would suggest that - like "doctoring" a saw - it is a job best left to an expert. I have a long serrated Victorinox bread knife, which also deals with things like tomatoes for my sandwiches every working day, and it is still quite lethal.The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0
