    Hi IlonaRN,

Red lentils don't need to be soaked, just cooked. I just throw them into the slow cooker and they're absolutely fine. I don't know why one packet says to soak them.

I don't soak any lentils BUT if I am using them in the SC then I boil them for a short time. I never find they are soft enough for me if I chuck them in "raw".

    hi ilona,

try only adding salt or stock at the end of cooking though, as salt can harden the outsides of the pulses before the inside cooks iyswim?

  • There are different types of red lentils - but I can't tell the difference (sorry!) Some I bought recently just disintegrated when I added them to a curry - but it didn't really matter; they thickened it up, but didn't give it any "bulk".

Other lentils take ages to cook.

I'd try 'em and see ...
