True. There was a lot of nostalgic sentiment when the stores were closing and I feel for those that lost their jobs, but the truth is that Woolworths was not very competitive and not in touch with the changes occuring on High Streets throughut the country.

Woolworths will be back in name only. It's owners are different and there will be no high street stores. It wont be what is was. It can't be what it was, or it would fail again!

If I remember rightly, years ago Woolworth diversified a portion of their empire and created Woolco and then ultimately these stores were rebadged as B&Q. So in essence you might say that Woolworths goes on albeit with a different name!

B&Q was a completely different store, they were set up by 2 guys in the 70/80. Its true they were part of the kingfisher group but if you look back at the history of the group woolworths real problems started when the group was split up and comet and b&q set up as 2 different companies and woolworths left with the debts and as a result couldnt continue as the sales were terrible
  • is this really true? I thought that was the end of wollies completely!! i never went in there anyway only when they had the sale on!! haha..:)
  • will be glad to see the return of it as i quite liked their kids clothes
  • But thats the point  its not woolworths, its littlewoods in sheeps clothing
  • My gawd i cannot believe its back, if they stick with their ridiculouly high prices they will get slaughtered online against the likes of Play.com and Amazon.

I did wonder what would happen to Ladybird clothes - the only reason I went to woollies.
