Home owner loan enquiry

Hello
Could anyone answer this query of mine please
i have never had a loan, never had a credit card etc - and so am abit in the dark re loans etc.
Ok, i am selling myhouse at present and hoping to use the capital I get out of this house to buy a smaller and cheaper one, paying cash, buying the property outright, security etc for my kids.
I am working self employed at the moment, but as i have only just set up i am running at just slightly above a loss, basically we survive on full tax credits etc, tho i do try my best to enocourage work and if nothing gets better soon will be changing my job etc.
What i would like to know is if i do buy my next house outright, giving me security etc, would i b able to get a small ish home owner loan based on fact i am really only in receipt of tax credits as my main income? Assuming that my income allows a loan repayment out.
I do intend to go back to my former job soon working again self employed as a hairdresser, but again work has to b built up before showing any profit etc.
Any input etc would be great and appreciated
thanks
Alison
