I would like to make a special meal for my husband on Valentines day.:smileyhea
He is a very lovely hubby & I'd like to do something special
- paticularly as he does most of the cooking. I am struggling alot at the moment not to sink into depression which I have suffered from in the past (he is very supportive & loving) - so motivation & ideas are just not at the forefront of my mind.
I just need a little inspiration to get me on track!
It needs to be inexpensive (obviously!) and I can cook (no gourmet chef but ok!). We both eat pretty much anything (but would rather stay away from fish) & have no dietry requirements. I want to do 3 courses.
So any ideas from you lovely peeps would be gratefully received!

I was thinking about making heart shaped pizzas for my OH as a valentines meal. He works really late so just wants something quick and simple when he gets home.
My idea was to make some dough, try to shape it a heart, use passatta for a base, add some ham and mushroom then cover in mozzarella. Sainsburys do Basics Mozzarella balls for about 50p - so nice and cheap!! I would make us one each and I'm thinking it'll only cost about £3/4 to make 2 pizzas.
For pudding I'm being lazy this year! I've bought some Gu chocolate souffles, chocolate heaven!
They were on offer at £2 for a pack of 2 in Sainsburys yesterday.

How about something like soup for a starter that you can make ahead and just re-heat on the day?
I'd go for something quick to make yet tasty such as pasta or risotto or steak and chips (my fave!).
These chocolate puddings look fab... http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/3382/chocolate-pecan-fondants
How about strawberries half-dipped in chocolate for an indulgent treat?
Loads of great recipes on these sites:

You can't go too wrong with steak as a main course if you both like red meat. Chocolate desserts are a nice end to a meal and the supermarkets have had various ones of offer (the Gu ones particularly). Alternatively you can check if M&S are having a two dine for £10 for valentines weekend which should put the meal together easily for you and provide a bottle of wine.
Outside of the food make an effort with the table setting, candles (pound shop), your favourite music etc. The thought will mean as much as the meal.2013 Free Money - £363.44 Topcashback

Thanks for the links - found some lovely recipes. I am looking at goats cheese & thyme stuffed chicken with rosemary roasted new potatoes & poached pears. Think garlic mushrooms for starters. Might change my mind of course lol but that all looks lovely!!
Thanks again for the links!! :TNEVER ASSUME! :rolleyes:0 -
Keep it really simple, do a melon for starters. Cut into wedges and half slice and put a cherry or a pair of jelly lips on the top.
Steak & wedges, cut potatoes into wedges and put in a bag containing a bit of oil, paprika, salt & black pepper. Shake & coat and bung in oven on gas 6 for about 40 mins or until cooked. Add some sliced cucumber & tomatoes.
Make a birds trifle and use more the lips on top of the cream or just pick up 2 desserts from the supermarket.
Lovely bottle of bubbly (cava) candles and you are set.0 -
