Claiming on an estate from Australia

Bit of an odd one, but not sure who to ask!
I'm researching my fiance's family tree, and have just found out that one of his great grandfather's sisters, had one son, who died in Australia in 2000.
They're not a big family, but none of them knew this man (dodgy family history that has been swept under the carpet for some time).
The reason I found it is there was a notice in a UK paper from an Aussie solicitors (google tells me they're no win, no fee personal injury specialists, so I'm avoiding them...) looking for relatives. That suggests to me that this son had no family of his own.
My fiance has said he'd be interested to find out if they can make a claim.
Does anyone know if they still can?
I think that 1. it'll be too late, and 2. fiance's Dad, as a cousin, is too distantly related.
Anyone know how this all works in Aus?
Are the solicitors likely to have info about this man's life (my main interest!)?

You need to contact the Probate service in the particular area of Australia as each one has it's own laws.

I'm involved in a probate dispute in Victoria over my late brother's estate and it's like walking through toffee. You'll really need to get advice from an Australian lawyer.

At least you had an official newspaper notice in the UK, my brother's floozie only posted in The Age and one other local paper!

    Good luck

Cheers, I've found some solicitors in the right area and have had a few suggestions from them as to how to proceed.
    Good luck with your claim!
